Call for proposals around the theme of “Creating Home”

The African American Cultural Center, Africana Studies, and the NC State University Libraries invite proposals for the first annual Black Research Symposium—a three-day event featuring virtual and in-person events and talks around the theme of “Creating Home: Afro-Diasporic Worldbuilding and a Sustainable Futurity.”

Combining in-person and virtual events, the symposium will take place April 14-16. The theme acknowledges the 30th anniversary of the founding of the African American Cultural Center, providing a dedicated, physical space on campus for the Black student community. The schedule will be announced soon, and attendance will be free and open to the public.

Organizers invite proposals from students, scholars, faculty, social justice activists, artists, creators, storytellers, entrepreneurs, and community members. Interdisciplinary and multimodal research, community-based projects, and cultural work are encouraged in a variety of formats, which include but are not limited to: presentations, digital posters, workshops, panels, teach-ins, community discussions, photo essays, music demos, cyphers, art displays, multimedia presentations, performance, and embodied movement.

Visit the symposium site for more information and to submit a proposal.
